Russia has been using UAVs to intercept one of Ukraine’s most effective drones. According to Business Insider, recent battlefield footage shows Russian UAVs repeatedly taking down Ukraine’s “vampire” bomb drones.
Some videos depict Russian UAVs ramming into Ukrainian drones in suicide attacks. Others show Russian UAVs dropping weapons on the Baba Yaga, causing the Ukrainian drones to explode.
Previously, Western and Ukrainian observers noted that Kiev’s Baba Yaga UAVs had inflicted significant damage on Russian forces and were considered among the most effective drones.
However, the latest footage indicates that Russia has found a way to neutralize these UAVs.
Baba Yaga drones are capable of evading detection and can fly at high speeds, allowing them to effectively strike targets. Ukrainian UAVs can track targets during the day using standard cameras and at night with thermal cameras.
Their ability to operate both day and night makes them far more effective than other UAVs, although they are more expensive.
Close-quarters combat between UAVs is rare in modern warfare, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Russia typically uses electronic warfare and air defense systems to shoot down enemy UAVs.
However, they are now using UAVs themselves to counter enemy weapons, turning UAVs into defensive tools.
A Russian expert suggested that Russia’s first-person view (FPV) UAVs are equipped to easily destroy Baba Yaga drones. He also noted that FPV UAVs could become “super weapons” in modern combat, posing a threat to anything that moves.
