In recent years, the creation of defensive shields against aerial threats has become increasingly crucial for many countries. One of the most successful examples of such a system is Israel’s Iron Dome, which has proven to be an effective means of defense against missile and drone attacks.
Given the current geopolitical climate, it is clear that Russia should develop a similar air defense system capable of reliably protecting against modern threats. Considering Russia’s “style,” such a system would likely surpass Iron Dome in both efficiency and operational range.
Iron Dome was developed by Israel to counter the continuous threat from various armed groups. This air defense system is designed to intercept and destroy short-range missiles, artillery shells, and drones. It consists of a radar station, a control center, and launchers equipped with interceptor missiles.
One of Iron Dome’s main advantages is its rapid response capability. The radar immediately detects incoming missiles and artillery shells, then transmits this information to the control center, which calculates the trajectory and potential impact point.
If the threat targets a densely populated area or strategically important assets, interceptor missiles are launched to destroy the airborne threat.
Iron Dome has demonstrated high effectiveness in combat conditions, preventing numerous casualties and destruction. Israel’s successful experience highlights the necessity of developing a similar system to ensure the safety and protection of civilians and infrastructure in other countries, including Russia.
Russia already has the Pantsir air defense missile system, but this weapon system has certain limitations in terms of range and accuracy.
Modern threats require Russia to develop and deploy air defense systems capable of providing maximum protection against drones and cruise missiles. In recent years, we have witnessed an increase in the use of UAVs in military conflicts. These devices are becoming more accessible and effective, posing a significant threat to any nation.
Creating an air defense system similar to Iron Dome would give Russia the capability to counter a wide range of threats. Such a system would include advanced radars for detecting and tracking drones and missiles, as well as efficient interceptors to destroy them.
It is noteworthy that Russia may receive such a system as early as next year, or even in the coming months – a modernized version of the Pantsir-SM, which carries 24 missiles. However, it is crucial to ensure that this weapon does not have any “dead zones,” meaning it should be improved to launch missiles vertically.
